
Every swim team in the Marin Swim League, including the Strawberry Seals, is run solely by parent volunteers and the success of the swim team is dependent on parent participation.
This year, we are requiring that each family sign up for a minimum of six volunteer positions. Please review the job descriptions on the website and sign up for the jobs that appeal to you and fit within your schedule. First come first served. Most jobs do not require any experience or training. For those jobs that do require some training, you will be briefed on deck or partnered with a veteran volunteer.
Since parent volunteers run all swim meets, being there and being on time is critical. If a family discovers that they are unable to fulfill a commitment, it is that family’s responsibility to find an adequate replacement and to notify the volunteer coordinator of any change. If your schedule is erratic, please consider paying the opt out fee of $400.00. Missing work assignments and even being late for swim meets seriously and negatively impacts the team. A strict “Late Arrival/No Show” penalty of $100.00 will be assessed this year.
Please check in with the Volunteer Coordinator 15 minutes prior to your scheduled job to assure you are credited for the job.
Championships
Once every decade, the Strawberry Seals are given the opportunity to run the Championship meet – and this is our year. We will be selling programs and clothing at the meet, which will allow our team to raise funds to help subsidize our program. Without this money, our registration fees would be much higher. Next year, our team will be responsible for the snack bar at the Championship meet, which will also be a big fundraiser for our team. This year, the Championship meet will be held on Saturday, July 19th. Everyone please plan on volunteering and mark your calendars now!
The meet will be run in two halves: ages 10 & under in the morning, and ages 11 & up in the afternoon. The Strawberry Seals are responsible for approximately 80 volunteer positions for this meet. We need volunteers to help set up the Wednesday through Friday before the meet, work various jobs at the meet, sell clothing and programs, and take down after the meet. We need a broad base of suppor; if your child is swimming in the morning meet, consider working at the clothing booth during the first half of the afternoon meet. For those of you who are absolutely unable to work at the meet, much help is needed beforehand with jobs including preparing programs and soliciting program advertisers, creating posters and signage, and more. Please help us make this year’s meet successful for the entire league.
